Design Ideas - Special Fireplace

I ran across this sculpture installation that really caught my eye.  A really simple fireplace wall composition with one spectacular piece of art.  The glass wheat sculpture is designed by Canlis Glass out of Seattle, Washington.  Check it out.

Simple composition of the fireplace wall.  A contemporary fire box and open display niche sit side by side.  Wheat sculpture centered above.

Lighting is important here as it really emphasizes the overall texture of the glass.

The stems of glass are set into the base of the sculpture; which in this case also serves as the fireplace mantel.

I don't want to know how much this costs.
I would imagine that this unique glass sculpture is cost prohibitive.  But the idea of the fireplace wall can be borrowed.  Keep the composition very simple.  No need for a fancy fireplace surround with expensive stone and and an ornate mantel.  Instead just place one interesting piece of art above.  Beautiful idea.

Suzanne Käsler

First! My heart beats a little 'faster when I look at this to-die-room of my favorite designer Suzanne Käsler and also on the January issue of Veranda. This room is in Greenwich, Connecticut Home Photos Thibault Jeanson is an elegant and tranquil, filled with the right amount of beautiful colors, patterns and designs. Nancy Corzine bench covered in Cowtan & Tout fabric is fab-u-Lous!

Ashley Goforth

I like simple, clean lines and muted color palette of the rooms in Houston and interior designer Ashley Goforth. Each is timeless and classic ... and incredibly comfortable. I am especially fond of beds. Fluffy pillows and duvets are calling my name today! To verify the best interiors of Ashley, visit their website here!

really modern really old house design

I ran across some photos of this house I thought interesting.  Actually, I love it.  The home located in Yport in Normandy, France was designed by Franklin Azzi Architecture in Paris.

I have for some time been very interested in the blending and contrasting of old and new - of traditional and modern.  Here the focal point for the design composition is a simple brick and stone box.  This emulates old fashioned rural farm structures that can be seen throughout the French countryside.
The ends of the box have been completely opened up - providing access to a modern flat roof covered patio.  The design of the roof clearly contrasts with the gable form.

The rear of the home has a clearly modern "addition".  The gable form itself is repeated however the design clearly distinguishes itself from the traditional box.
Ridiculous views of countryside.  The roof deck we could never do in the USA because building codes would not allow it.  Someone could fall off.
Clean and simple interior bedroom space with exposed timber framework.  The old and new again coming together.

Interior decoration is one of the parts of the architecture. Architecture is an art of man at first devoted to the erection of tombs and temples which was changed to take care of comfort by providing with habitations. Interior decoration is the art of decorating a house or a room to make it attractive, easy to use and functions well with the existing architecture. The main aim of interior decoration is to provide comfort for the room by applying wallpaper, painting walls and other surfaces, choosing right furniture and fittings, such as light fittings, floor plans and providing other decorations for the area such as paintings, sculptures and carpets. The real aim of interior decoration is as remote from mere imitation as it is from mere eccentricity no other than the creation of a beautiful and fitting home. In a fine sense interior decoration is one of the creative arts.

There are many people feel that their room needs to be perfect. This happens to not be the case and no home needs to be this way. You home can be messy it means that it is in fact lived in, clean is the main thing.

You are the one that is living in your house so you should be the one to decide on the decoration and your furniture. While you are out shopping for anything that is going into your home do shop with the impression that anything will grow on you. When shopping this way you will not be stuck with anything that you do not like.

It is a good idea to combine colors and prints rather then match them. This works well if you combine your favoured color in any room with any accessories that happen to blend with the print . When you are putting prints in any room be certain that you are not making your room look racy.

Put an area rug, a lamp or two, and some pictures but not too many. You are decorating your house to fit your life, not the other way around. Anywhere an area rug is a great decorating tool. There are many different colors that are available that will warm any floor surface and also protect it.

Surprise

I thought I could stay away until the new year,
but while I am working away on a new project,
I am noticing things about some of my older props.

Namely - the pillows.

I love these,
I hope you do too,
but I am getting really annoyed with the damned floating pillow (fig.1)
Originally made with flying carpets, apparently, it is designed to sit on couches and chairs..
Perhaps you love it. Great.
For those of you who would rather it sit on the floor
I have made a second version (fig. 3).

You'll need to use an OMSP* to place it on furniture
but this way you can place it on any number of things.

And the floor pillow (fig. 2) is great,
but it's huge.
HUGE.
Like - honkin'.
So for those of you who might like a second size,
I have made this mesh (fig. 4) a little smaller.

As a bonus, the smaller floor pillow is also getting 12 different overlays.

That's right bubbies - 12 new styles on the smaller mesh.
Kudos me.
These 12 are culled from my favorite rugs
from the already released rugs/ottoman sets.
Yup, you're counting correctly - the first one is CASt-able, so 13.
I can count too - sheesh.

You won't need to ditch the old ones as this is a complimentary set.
Unless you don't like floating and huge pillows.

Oh yeah.
You might notice something new in some of the photos.
It's a sneak peak at what's to come.

Okay - until next year . . .  fer real this time.
Love ya, but I have got work to do.
Had a cold and it's eaten up some of my precious vacation.
So no hugs this time. Germs and all.
Besides - last time you nearly squeezed the life out of me.
Jeez.
